On our third day we had a guided tour around the most iconic places of Venice. We started at Piazza San Marco where we entered the overwhelming Basilica di San Marco with it's gold mosaics. Afterwards we walked through narrow calli up to Marco Polo's home and onwards to the Rialto bridge where the tour ended. So many interesting anecdotes, information and lots to see. For example: Did you know that all the Gondole belong to the Gondoliere themselves? For one boat you pay minimum € 30'000 so many of those boats have been within the family for generations...
We took a Gondola ride in the evening that day. It is just magical how you float through the water ways - everything is so quiet, far and wide no cars to hear. And the precision a Gondoliere is working with is simply stunning! This day came perfectly to an end at the Ristorante Il Refolo: You sit directly at a canale and the pizza was amazing - definitively one of the best I have ever eaten.
