Visiting Stockholm

01.jpg

My visiting-series continues: After Prague, here are my places to go / see when you're in Stockholm. We were staying at the Scandic Grand Central which - who would have thought - lies pretty central. The rooms are individually furnished even though the hotel is very big. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast rich and healthy and they had an easy access to wi-fi.All in all recommendable.

EAT & DRINK

Sturehof
Sturegallerian 42
Stureplan 2
114 46 Stockholm

I guess this is the best place I have ever eaten. The food there is amazing! All of the four dishes were absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp salad as a starter and the grilled herring with mashed potatoes for my main course. You should definitively taste that place out.

East
Stureplan 13
111 45 Stockholm

On our first evening this restaurant was recommended to us from our hotel. It's moderate Asian cuisine and stylish interior. Nothing special, but not bad at all.

Berns Asiatiska
Berzelii Park
111 47 Stockholm

To be honest the food wasn't very extraordinary + we had some issues with the waitress and the food as they served our starters with the main courses so we couldn't really enjoy. Also the service is super slooow. But what pays you off is the amazing location! Beautiful ball room from the 19th century. My tip: Only go there for a drink.

MOOD, Vigårda
corner Mäster Samuelsgatan & Norrlandsgatan
111 43 Stockholm

After our morning shopping tour on the second day the Mood was recommended to us from a lovely sales girl at COS. We sat outside the Vigårda and enjoyed some delicious burgers, fries and salads. Try it!

SHOPPING

We didn't really go to shopping malls, but more to shopping streets. #1 is Biblioteksgatan (Norrmalm). There you will find lots of well known brands and stores such as Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel, 7 for all mankind, Urban Outfitters and COS - a store you have to check out! If you start from Stureplan following the Biblioteksgatan to it's end, you'll come to Norrmalmstorg and find Acne - the second must-see-store.

#2 is Götgatan on Södermalm. Södermalm is also called SoFo (Stockholm version of Soho?) Anyway you'll find more Scandinavian brands and concept stores, so it's quite the opposite of Biblioteksgatan, but also definitively worth checking out.

SIGHT SEEING

Fotografiska
As the name might already tell you, it is a photography museum. While we were there we had great luck that they showed an exhibition from Helmut Newton which runs until September 29. Also have a look at the Café at the top of the museum which offers you a great view over Stockholm.

Moderna Museet
The Museum of Modern Art is on Skeppsholm, a little island not far from the Berzelii Park where the Berns lies. The building itself is worth seeing and I am sure you'll find a good exhibition (also check out the Café in the backyard)! While we were there Jean Paul Gaultier exhibited (until September 22).

Vasa Museet
The museum I talked about in my previous Stockholm-post. See a whole ship from 1628!

Boat tour
This is something I nearly want to force you to do! Take a boat to one of the thousand islands that are around Stockholm and see the nature's beauty! We took the boat directed to Vaxholm & Grinda. It takes nearly 2 hours to get to Grinda (1 hour to Vaxholm), but time passes so quickly as you have to look around and be amazed again and again!
