What Drives Us

Have you ever had those days where questions like "Why am I doing this?" or "Is it really the direction I want to go in life?" wander your mind? On those days you feel kind of vulnerable and insecure.
Especially on Sundays I often have this feeling, that’s why I promised myself that I would never make a major decision on a Sunday as my mood is often completely different from the other six days of the week.
Just like the yang to the yin, my counterpart to those unsure days are days where I feel incredibly strong and driven. What mostly helps are accomplishments, no matter how small or big. A rather big accomplishment was a recent publication about us in one of Switzerland’s biggest free newspapers (read the article online) and yet another one in the March issue of Gala Schweiz.
We never started this blog with the intention that it could be such a big part in both our lives. But to be honest I’ve found such great passion and joy in running this blog together with Moritz and also got to know lots of incredible, inspiring people over time. Looking back it has been a thrilling journey so far and it is all kept in a very public diary, namely this blog.
I won’t say that it was an easy way, I had many days where I questioned my path, but so far I always managed to find enough motivation to keep on going. Where to get this motivation from you might ask? I believe it is an endless circle of finding motivation in what you’re doing to keep on doing it. The motto is definitively “Never give up!” and always chase your dreams, no matter how many people think it’s a stupid idea or won’t support you, because in the end it only takes one person to believe in you and that is yourself.
I didn’t mean to make this article about motivation, but there has just been so much going on lately that I wanted to take some time to pause, reflect and – without wanting to sound like a total prick – be proud of myself. I think it is completely ok to every now and then be proud of yourself, as long as it means that you don’t rest on your laurels. On the contrary it should be another source of motivation that shows you you’re headed towards the right direction and that you should keep going.
What drives me, too, is to be able to work together with my brother – this time he wasn’t always behind the lens, but dressed sharply in front of it. Together with our friend Lark who is a very talented hair stylist we created the shooting at this awesome location that accommodates both the McConnell hairdressing salon and Elastique vintage design furniture store. We wanted to take in this vintage atmosphere and styled elegant retro-looks provided by one of my favourite stores in Zurich, Fidelio.
