One week ago Moritz and I made our way to Basel to attend the opening of the 46th edition of Art | Basel with Davidoff. It began in the morning with a meeting at their newly re-opened flagship store on Eisengasse 9 where it all started 140 years ago. It was the first tobacco shop opened by Max Oettinger in the year 1875, which would lay the foundation for the Oettinger Davidoff AG.
A couple of attendee's already managed to smoke a cigar at 10 AM in the morning in the beautiful new in-store smoker's lounge, but it was slightly too early for us so we stuck to cappuccino and croissants. Later on we headed to the Ramada Plaza Hotel for the press conference, which was followed by a lunch at the Davidoff Lounge at the Collectors Lounge where the exhibition took place.
After lunch we had a guided tour around the Art Unlimited with the biggest, most attention-drawing exhibitions of the Art | Basel. It was very interesting to see what all those artists came up with, some we were intrigued and astonished by, others we simply couldn't understand why it would count as art... But I guess in the end that's what art is for: giving a spark to a conversation with people all over the world! We all have different tastes and opinions and I guess there is no bigger place to see those differences than Art | Basel.
A huge thanks to Davidoff for bringing us to Basel, it was indeed a very interesting experience!
For those of you who missed it this time in Basel, the next editions will be held in Miami Beach from December 3 - 6 and in Hong Kong from March 24 - 26.
