Shoe Is Who, a shoe guide for SS 2014

With all this warm weather and sunshine we've had in Zurich lately I couldn't help myself, but to browse through a few online shops to see what gets on our feet coming spring! I guess one of the big trends will be slip-on sneakers. I chose to display two - rather expensive - models, the Bottega Veneta intreciatto suede slip-on sneakers and the Jimmy Choo grove crocodile-embossed leather slip-on sneakers. It was only to demonstrate that you can really play with the colors, fabrics and textures as the form mostly stays the same.

Always a must in summer are either sandals or espadrilles, both very comfortable and practical to wear when temperatures raise above 30° degrees. Above pictured are the Castañer Pablo striped canvas espadrilles.

Whenever you want to dress a bit more classy I recommend you to go with slippers, moccasins or loafers. You don't need to wear socks and your feet aren't laced-up and therefore captivated in your shoes. With those three shoe types you can also easily play in terms of color, fabric and texture. Go bold like I did with the Tod's moccasin in red nubuck leather, "printy" with the animal printed pony-hair slippers from Del Toro or classy with a black shiny horsebit loafer by Gucci.

When it comes to sneakers I'd mostly go with white. I don't know why, but for me a classical white sneakers just goes with nearly every outfit, like the adidas Stan Smith sneakers or the Converse Jack Purcell leather sneakers. Talking high top sneakers I couldn't resist but to show you another adidas classic and the KIOMI ones in black or white.

For more formal events I'd choose a (double) monk strap or brogue, pairing it with a light summer suit, a shirt (leave the two top buttons open)  and a pocket square. I found some colorful variations at Paul Smith. They are classic on top and fashion at the sole, eye-catchers if you want so. Pictured above are the Paul Smith Shoes black high-shine leather double monk strap and navy leather grand brogues.

As we all know spring and summer don't always bring warm weather and sunshine, but also rainy days if not even periods. Therefore be prepared with a pair of rubber boots! After I already bought the perfect white rain coat back in Stockholm (I still owe you an outfit post with that one) all I need are some rubber boots, the blue Hunter original tall Wellington boots would definitively work in this color combination, don't you think?

Louis Leeman Paris Spring / Summer 2014

Whilst talking about shoes I wanted to use the opportunity to present to you a Parisian label I have recently discovered, Louis Leeman. Being a fan of Louis XIV. - le Roi-Soleil - I really like his opulent and rich shoe creations.

"Handcrafted for exceptional style, the collection draws its inspiration from the Far East, finding stimulus in the mystical eastern tales, the ancient architecture, and the great masters of oriental art. The Prints are key to the collection, unfolding the stories of opulence and exoticism. Embodying the rich heritage of the orient, inspiration was sought from the erotic paintings of Kitagawa Utamaro, to the serenity of the brushes of master Mei Hua calligraphers. Patterned geometric lines mirror the rooftops of the Forbidden City and the structured curvatures of the expansive rice paddy landscape. Studs and spikes reflect the plate armor worn by the unrivaled Samurai warriors emphasizing their incomparable fierceness, strength, and loyalty. The golden finishing captures the echo of the great Tang Dynasty. The neatly woven straw and the intricate handcrafted embroideries incarnate Ancient techniques of the orient."
