Karl Lagerfeld. Modemethode
Last Friday the most extensive Karl Lagerfeld exhibiton ever opened its doors at the Bundeskunsthalle in former captial of Germany, Bonn. For over 60 years now his creations show a certain understanding for the attitude towards life and the Zeitgeist of the different era's he has been working in. Fashion-wise at least he has been ahead of his time, managing to stay on top of the fashion world in a very long time. The exhibitions starts at the very beginning of his career: with the creation of the coat that would mean the victory of the Woolmark Prize in 1954 and bring the engagement at Balmain.
As Creative Director of CHANEL since 1983 he counts as the only legitimate follower of Coco herself. He has renewed classics such as the CHANEL-costume for decades not to mention reinventing himself again and again.
For the Italian fashion house Fendi Karl has been creating collections regularly since 1965. What started off with only two collections a year has meanwhile become four. Add the six collections he does for CHANEL and another couple of collections for Karl Lagerfeld and you'll be wondering just like I do: "How the hell does he do that?"
The fashion method [Modemethode], the principal of Karl Lagerfeld is an overall concept. From the very first sketch to the finished piece of clothing, from the accessories to the architecture and music of the fashion show, to the photographies and grafic design for press, advertising, catalogues and window displays - every detail originates from the mind and hands of the designer himself.
Discover 62 Chanel, 30 Fendi, 20 Chloé and 13 Karl Lagerfeld looks, countless sketches and some incredible accessories and shoes from over 60 years Karl Lagerfeld! For this special occassion VOGUE Germany published a 160 strong special edition that is available at the Bundeskunsthalle and will be in their May issue from 15th April on.
