Last week Moritz and I hopped on a two days trip to Cologne, Germany for the IMM Köln. It is one of the biggest and most important furniture fairs worldwide. Now you may be wondering why furniture?
The truth is that for the past seven months we have been involved in other businesses apart from blogging. Our father took over a furniture store amidst Zurich that he had worked at previously. Before taking over he asked us if we would be a part of it, too, mainly taking over the whole creation of the website, social media and all sorts of graphic designs. We spent the first months creating the website from scratch and remodeling parts of the store while also planning events and doing all the organization that comes with it. It is a whole new field of work for both of us and while we can rely on our experience from blogging on the digital side, the rest is more or less learning by doing.
So last week we were in Cologne as buyers, shopping the novelties of the furniture industry, which was pretty exciting. It was also a great inspiration to see the trends in interior design and how we can implement them in our own store.
Ever since taking on this new role my attention for details when it comes to furniture has grown immensely. Who is this from? What’s it made of? Is it high quality? are now not only questions I ask myself when it comes to clothes, but also furniture. Whilst in fashion we are used to a six-months-cycle where everything can change, the furniture cycle is definitively slower and more timeless. After all you’re going to buy pieces you might end up having for the next 10 to 20 years.
